Penn Engineering’s Live Our Values campaign reflects both who we are as a community and how we bring our mission to life.
Penn Engineers propel scientific discovery, innovation and opportunity for all, and we do so by living our shared values every day. While Penn Engineering’s full Values Statement details these shared values for our community, this campaign brings those values to life, capturing them in three accessible guiding principles: Excellence, Respect and Impact.
The Live Our Values campaign emphasizes that these principles are not abstract ideals, but rather reflected in everyday actions, especially in moments that test our values. It provides the guiding principles for:
Excellence speaks to our deep commitment to scholarship, creativity and rigor. It reflects our pursuit of the highest standards in teaching, research and innovation, which are grounded in honesty, integrity and continuous professional growth. Excellence is not only what we achieve, but how we achieve it, with purpose and accountability.
Respect defines our culture as an open and inclusive community. We welcome varied perspectives and foster a safe, respectful environment where ideas can be exchanged freely. Respect strengthens collaboration, builds trust and ensures that every member of our community feels valued and heard.
Impact underscores our responsibility as engineers and innovators. We are inventive and practical problem-solvers who consider the broader societal implications of our work. Living our values means working together to be a positive force, locally in Philadelphia, nationally and globally, all while advancing solutions that serve the public good.
This moment is an invitation for all faculty, staff and students across Penn Engineering to reflect on how they embody Excellence, Respect and Impact, and to commit, both individually and collectively, to living our shared values in ways that strengthen our community and extend Penn Engineering’s positive influence in the world.
The “Live Our Values” Award celebrates members of our Penn Engineering community (faculty, staff, and students) who translate our core values of Excellence, Respect, and Impact into action through how they lead, how they collaborate, how they serve others, and how they solve problems. Through their everyday contributions, they help build Penn Engineering as a community and make life better for others.
Penn Engineering faculty, staff, and students who model our core values in building community and making life better through their contributions are eligible to be nominated. Nominations may recognize an individual or a team, and we warmly welcome both. Impact can take many forms; collaboration across faculty, staff, and students is one meaningful example, but it is not required.
